Airbnb on Thursday took steps to fight one of the most pervasive problems with its platform: Discrimination of guests based on race, sexuality, religion or other identities.
The company released a 32-page report Thursday outlining a new nondiscrimination policy and ways it is trying to eliminate bias on its platform through technology and policy.
Airbnb has faced strong criticism over the ability of its hosts to discriminate against guests when choosing whether to accept a reservation. Airbnb users — some through the hashtag #AirbnbWhileBlack — have said they have had reservations rejected or canceled based on race and other characteristics.
